RetroDISNEY is now a part of NETCOT.com

After much planning, RetroDISNEY.com is officially closing in order to become a part of a greater good: www.NETCOT.com

Thats right, the Disney fansite/podcast I have praised the most has been gracious enough to take us in! You can now enjoy all our quality content via these three NEW Netcot outlets...

1) "You're Not Alone" - A new bi-weekly blog series featuring both poignant and irrelevant thoughts on the Disney experience.
2) Weekly Wallpaper - A weekly offering of the highest resolution Disney-inspired desktop wallpaper on the web.
3) The NETCOT.Store - Find your favorite original RetroDISNEY designs here. Look for the HYDROLATOR re-release coming soon!

It's been fun trying to keep up with RetroDISNEY, but the infrastructure and community this move provides are second to none.

Be sure to check out Netcot's other rockin' features:
- The best Disney podcast on the web!
- The best Disney forums on the web!
- The best llama tatters east of Wichita Falls!

Check it all out HERE.
See you there!

UNDETERMINED HIATUS (again)

So, it's happened again. I've been so busy lately, I've neglected to update The Blog of Tomorrow. Sorry folks, I'll be back at it soon.

And for those who have emailed me about the CafePress shut down, thanks for your concern. Hopefully we'll have a new version of our custom shirts back up soon. It seems that yet again "someone" doesn't like the name "RetroDISNEY" printed on fan merchandise.

ARTICLE - "The Gospel According to Walt"

Wade Sampson over at MOUSE PLANET posted a great article last week entitled "The Gospel According to Walt."

I proudly admit that I grew up as a "Disney Kid," meaning that some of my earliest impressions and values were influenced by movies and television shows produced by Walt Disney. At the time, it never consciously occurred to me that those productions were firmly based on the same values I was learning in Sunday school each week.

It was not surprising because Walt Disney was a strongly religious man who truly believed that good would triumph over evil and that it was important to accept and help everyone even if they were very different from yourself.
Just thought this was an interesting and well written article.

ARTICLE - "World Cinema" EPCOT Central

I never thought about it this way until EPCOT CENTRAL, the pinnacle of EPCOT fandom and critique, posted their latest article entitled "World Cinema."

In 2006, The Walt Disney Company spent good money to produce and/or distribute such cinematic gems as The Santa Clause 3, Step Up and The Wild. Together, the domestic (U.S.) gross of these movies was $187 million, meaning that approximately 30 million people saw them. Put another way, on average, 10 million people went to see each of these Disney movies.

Disney thinks nothing of spending millions on a movie in order to make a very little bit of money. Despite razor-thin margins, Disney churns out movie after movie … except, that is, the movies that more people see than any other: Its theme park productions.

Since opening its doors in 1982, EPCOT has greeted some 250 million visitors from around the world. Assuming just 50 percent of them visited any individual attraction, it’s safe to bet that more than 100 million people have experienced the movies that represent the World Showcase countries of Canada, France, Norway and China.

Yet, in that 25-year span, only one of those movies, The Wonders of China, has been updated...
Sadly, "new profit" is the current EPCOT doctrine. If people are coming to EPCOT for NEMO, why upgrade unimportant background attractions?
